… cosa volevo fare da piccola? Se me lo chiedi così su due piedi ti rispondo che volevo fare qualcosa che può assomigliare alla figura dell’artista.
Sono Elena Di Capita, classe 1985 e vivo a Cavi di Lavagna (GE).
Il percorso che mi ha portato a sperimentare la tecnica dei Gyotaku non è lineare.
Come la maggior parte delle persone creative nasco con la propensione per l’arte, o in generale con la passione per il disegno. Ho avuto la grande fortuna di vivere da sempre a due passi dal mare; la sua presenza visiva e uditiva ha accompagnato tutta la mia vita, quasi un membro della famiglia.
Mi diplomo a pieni voti all’Istituto d’arte di Chiavari (GE), ma il sogno di diventare un’artista viene accantonato dal bisogno di guadagnarsi la pagnotta. Studio restauro a Botticino (BS) e mi laureo in Archeologia a Genova. Dopo un lungo periodo di trasferte e cantieri, la mia vita ha una brusca frenata con l’arrivo di Damiano, mio figlio. E’ durante questo momento di stop che scopro l’incredibile tecnica dei Gyotaku, e mi si apre un mondo. Un po’ come trovare una via IMPRESSIONANTE – nel senso di sensazionale ma anche fatta di impressioni – della raffigurazione.
Ed io scelgo di accogliere questa via.

What did I want to do as a child? If you ask me like this on the spot I tell you that I wanted to do something that can resemble the figure of the artist.
Like most creative people, I was born with a propensity for art, or in general with a passion for drawing. I have been very lucky to have always lived a stone’s throw from the sea; his visual and auditory presence has accompanied my whole life, almost a member of the family.
I graduated with full marks from the Chiavari Art Institute (GE), but the dream of becoming an artist was put aside by the need to earn a loaf. I study restoration in Botticino (BS) and I graduated in Archeology in Genoa. After a long period of trips and construction sites, my life has come to a sudden halt with the arrival of Damiano, my son. It is during this moment of rest that I discover the incredible technique of Gyotaku, and a world opens up to me. A bit like finding an IMPRESSIVE way – in the sense of sensational but also made up of impressions – of representation.
And I choose to welcome this way.
